What If I Have No Idea What My Passion Is?
It’s another day of COVID-19 isolation, and I’m on my phone scrolling through Instagram again.
I’m reading a post from a writer I follow about how important it is to “find your passion”. She goes on to say how broke she used to be, but because she found herself in writing, she now brings home six figures a year. Her page is flooded with photos that are perfectly candid and have inspirational captions full of hipster clichés. The most recent post is an impassioned claim that this pandemic is an opportunity to explore your life’s true passion.
My passion right now is this bag of chips in my lap.
I used to be all about mantras and vision boards, and I suppose there is a time and a place for those. After months of trying to be a person I’m not, I accepted the fact that phrases like “find your passion” slightly annoy me. Everyone is so quick to throw the phrase out like it’s a process that everyone should just get. Easier said than done.
You’ve all heard it. Everyone wants to find their passion. Who wouldn’t want that?
What if I have no effing idea what my passion is?
I mean…I like food. I like chips, clearly. I enjoy camping…I like sex…
But my passion?
How do I find that?
It’s a cute idea in theory, but what is the practical application of finding your passion?
